TunnelBear VPN

Been running this on android for about 10 years as a subscriber. Seems to work well on a PC, but android version is the flakiest app that I have. the latest version requires a full reinstall every single time you want to connect. Currently not fit for purpose. expect to see one of the following messages very regularly.: "we can't currently find that's email and password combination". "no Internet". "try again later".

The app is easy to use, and from my experience it's a pretty good choice of VPN. The problem I've had is I can't have it on for too long, at some point no internet traffic gets through. No notifications, no website loads. I have to turn the VPN off for a moment, close the app, and turn it on later, but this also means I might miss something until I notice. This happens on two different devices, and makes it hard to leave on. It instead becomes a sometimes tool.

Upgraded to yearly sub, but not great so far. I'm in the UK and set to UK. A number of sites simply refuse to connect at random and will not load until vpn turned off. Updates lose all my split Bear settings, and now keeps disconnecting (without warning), logging me out and then I have to log in again. Paid £36 for the year, so no big loss, but will not be renewing and going elsewhere if this nonsense keeps repeating.

May 2026 Update: I've been using this app for 9 years with a recurring annual subscription. After updating my app earlier this week, all instances of the app are treating me like a free customer with a data limit and no choice of tunnels. Logging into the site shows my annual sub, which has 3 months left and is set to renew, as active but does not fix the issue in actual USE. I'm literally paying for services I am not receiving.

Very useful VPN...when it works. Lately it keeps dropping and I have to reinstall the whole thing to get it to work, and even then it doesn't always work. No idea what happened, but it's really annoying. Edit: They made connecting even temporarily to basically any other country a premium feature, making this app functionally useless for me, as I used it to log in to a game. I will have to pay for a premium vpn, but it won't be this useless trash app. Thanks for nothing, tunnelbear.

I paid 3 years subscription plan and what i got is recurring connection issue. the connection often lapse due to my account suddenly become free version and any unknown reason. i have to re-log again & again. vigilant bear feature also not working. As customer, I don't ask much. just stable connection, acceptable speed, and proper encryption easily win 5 star from me, but it seems hard to them. I already raise this issue one year ago and they just promise to fix it. yet here we are again

Well I guess it was only a matter of time. Tunnel bear has now become a pay to play app. no more free 2 gigabytes. I would consider paying but this app is not worth paying for. it constantly crashes or disconnects. I didnt mind considering I was only using the free plan. It was good while it lasted.

Doesn't like to connect in the first place, often fails to let you know that it didn't connect, and won't stay connected. Best thing about that last part is that it doesn't even let you know if it disconnected. Don't waste your money on the premium version either, as it's just as bad as the free one, AND seems to forget that you've got the paid version, so it constantly harasses you about upgrading. Save your money, get a different no-log VPN.
